Widespread rain has reduced the forest fire hazard to “low” across the entire Northwest Region and is keeping the fire situation quiet, the Ministry of Natural Resources reported late yesterday.
Still, there remained 53 active fires in Northwestern Ontario as of press time today.
Of those, 51 were listed as “being monitored”
Most of the active fires are in the districts of Nipigon, Sioux Lookout, and Red Lake.
There are none here in Fort Frances District.
There have been 514 fires to date so far this season, charring 92,021.4 hectares in all.
