Although their quest for a third-straight Rainy River District Fastball League title came to an abrupt end Aug. 2, the Sight & Sound Wolves still have a chance to salvage something from their season.
The Fort Frances-based squad is competing in the ‘A’ bracket at the NAFA World Series in Topeka, Kan., with their first game slated for today at 4 p.m. versus the Marquette Fence from Michigan.
If they win, the Wolves will be back on the diamond tomorrow at 9 a.m. to meet the winner of the game between the Santa Rosa FP (California) and the KC Angels (Missouri).
A loss will drop them into the loser’s bracket, where they’ll play the loser of an opening-round contest between Springfield Howard Johnson’s (Missouri) and the Wizards of Oz (Kansas) tomorrow at 12:45 p.m.
The champion will be crowned Sunday.
Meanwhile, because the Wolves bolstered their roster with other players from the RRDFL for the World Series, the league playoffs have been put on hold.
Play will resume next Tuesday when the Stratton Eagles visit the Rainy River Royals in quarter-final action.
The winner of that game then will take on Beef’s Warriors in the semi-final.
The Big Grassy Braves await the victor having already earned a bye to the final.
