Canadian Blood Services’ first summer blood donor clinic here goes today and tomorrow at Fort Frances High School.
It runs from 4:30-8:30 p.m. today and again tomorrow from noon-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.
It’s not too late to make an appointment. Harvey Heather, CBS community development co-ordinator, said there still were 85 appointment spots open (mostly on Tuesday) as of Friday.
CBS has a two-day goal of 300 units of blood.
What’s more, some local sponsors are providing extra incentives to prospective donors.
Heather said Boston Pizza has offered each blood donor a $5 off coupon towards a meal as a “thank you” for attending.
As well, Fort Floral is donating a rose to each donor who attends (donors do not have to successfully give blood to receive a coupon or rose).

CBS previously held spring and fall blood donor clinics here each year, but moved to having only the summer clinic this year.
That’s because the blood it collects in Fort Frances is most needed in the summer months, when many business, school, and university clinics in other areas are not as available.
