The race for this year’s Rainy River District Fastball League title is coming down to the home stretch, with only four teams left to battle it out heading into a pair of games tonight.
The lone knockout game in the double elimination bracket will be taking place in Rainy River at 6:30 p.m., as the fourth seeded Royals will be going up against the fifth seed Stratton Eagles.
On Tuesday night, the Royals stayed alive with a 4-0 shutout victory over the 10th ranked Manitou Thunderbirds, with pitcher Murray Armstrong shutting down the opposition.
As for the Eagles, they advanced into the final four by upsetting the third seeded Barwick Blue Knights by a score of 9-2 on Wednesday.
Leading the charge for the Eagles was Guy Arpin, who hit a home run and also picked up the victory on the mound.
In the other half of the bracket meanwhile, a spot in the finals will be up for grabs between the top two teams in the league tonight at 6:30 p.m., as the top-seeded Big Grassy Braves will entertain the second ranked Beef’s Warriors.
The winner of tonight’s contest will advance straight into the first game of the finals on Aug. 16, while the loser will play the winner of the game between Stratton and Rainy River on Tuesday night to determine the other finalist.
