On Friday at 1 p.m., officers with the Rainy River District OPP’s marine unit and Fort Frances ambulance responded to a 9-1-1 call for assistance at an island near the Five-Mile Dock area.
A 66-year-old male from Minnesota had experienced a medical emergency and subsequently was transported to La Verendrye Hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.
A police investigation is continuing but the death is not considered suspicious.
A post-mortem examination was being conducted this morning at Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora.
Meanwhile, the OPP is investigating a break, enter, and theft from a garage at the 200 block of Front Street in Emo.
The crime occurred when culprit(s) entered the unlocked garage sometime between July 19-22 and stole fishing rods, an ice auger, and a chainsaw.
Police have canvassed businesses in Emo and have reviewed security cameras at these locations.
Two male suspects are observed on video as walking along Highway 11, near the west end of the community, on July 22 at 3:47 a.m.
The males appear to be carrying an ice auger and a chainsaw.
One of the males is wearing blue jeans and an orange or red sweatshirt, with a lighter colour (maybe white) on the upper chest area.
The second male was wearing a dark sweatshirt and dark pants.
