Barwick’s traditional July 1st celebrations are all set to go.
Gary Judson is once again looking after the parade while George Oltsher is organizing the fastball.
The parade will take place on Sunday, July 1 with the registration of the participants and line up beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Cedar Yard Road (just over the railroad tracks in Barwick).
The parade will begin at 12 p.m. (noon) sharp and will include nine categories: Best dressed (individual AND group), best overall float, ATV, horse (individual AND team), best use of Canada day theme, tricycles/wagons and bicycles.
In order to be eligible for prizes, participants must be at least 50 percent dressed up or decorated.
There will be draw prizes for participants as well as prizes for each category. Draw prizes include a bicycle and helmet (donated by Barwick Service), a kiddie prize (donated by Barwick Village Restaurant) and more.
Following the parade, there will be children’s games at the baseball field run by the Emo Fair Queen 2011 royalty and the 2012 Fair Queen contestants.
There will also be prizes for the games, ice cream treats, and face painting.
The traditional fastball tournament will take place on Saturday and Sunday, complete with a canteen and beer garden.
The community sponsors for this year’s Canada Day celebrations include the Municipality of Chapple, Barwick Service, Barwick Village Restaurant, Tompkins Home Hardware, Rainy River Resources, and many more.
The entire district is invited to this fabulous Canada Day celebration in the Municipality of Chapple.

The Emo Legion is holding a Canada Day supper from 5-7 p.m. on July 1 at the Legion.
Supper will consist of ham, scalloped potatoes, perogies, salads and of course, “Canada Day” cake.
The cost of tickets is $14 for adults and $5 for children 8 and under.
Tickets are available in advance from Legion members, the municipal office or from Emo councillors, or they may be purchased at the door.

The Emo and District Lions Club has provided a donation of $1,000 to the High School Medical First Responder P.A.R.T.Y Program in order to purchase a Metiman Medical Simulator.
The automated simulator has a value of $60,000 and John Beaton, coordinator of the program, is currently canvassing the district with students providing awareness of the program and its importance in training first responders for medical emergencies.

Cornell Farms is hosting another barn concert on July 7, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.
This concert will feature all local performers and they are excited to have John Dutton helping them with the organization.
It will certainly be a night to remember and there might even be a surprise or two.
They encourage you to get your tickets early since they expect a sell-out crowd.
