New Democrat Member of Parliament John Rafferty (Thunder Bay-Rainy River) presented a Jubilee Medal Saturday to Glenn Jourdain of Fort Frances.
Jourdain has dedicated his life to enriching the social, recreational, cultural and economic conditions of the Couchiching First Nation and is presently involved in historical research in the area of First Nation’s genealogy.
His research has yielded many positive benefits for band members working with government.
“Mr. Jourdain has been involved in the life of the community, in so many ways, for more than 50 years. Just one example was the creation of the volunteer fire department, which became a model for Treaty 3 communities,” said Rafferty.
The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal is a new commemorative medal created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the Throne as Queen of Canada.
