Mayor Roy Avis will present shares of this year’s Moffat Family Fund to successful applicants at this evening’s council meeting at the Civic Centre.
The mayor is expected to give out a total of $37,500 to nine recipients.
Individuals and organizations were invited back in March to submit their requests, including a specific dollar amount and the rationale behind it, to the local Moffat Family Fund committee.
A total of 12 applicants responded, requesting $$92,400 in funding in all.
The selection committee—comprised of Mayor Avis, Couns. John Albanese, Andrew Hallikas, Paul Ryan, and Marie Howells, Linda Hamilton, and Salvation Army Capt. Angel Sandoval—then had to pare those applicants down to a number that could split the $37,500 the town once again was allotted to give to local groups that benefit children, families, and the less advantaged.
This is the 10th-straight year the town has gotten money from the Moffat Family Fund to hand out to local groups and service clubs with the aim of helping youths and families.
Council also will hear an economic development activity update by Geoff Gillon of the Rainy River Future Development Corporation, as well as a fundraising request from the Riverside Foundation for Health Care.
The public portion of this evening’s committee of the whole meeting is scheduled to start at 6:50 p.m. It will be followed by the regular meeting of council at 7:30.
Other business on the agenda includes:
•a proposal for compensation for additional time spent by staff on a development matter;
•a lease renewal agreement with Melaire Ltd, and 427112 Ontario Ltd.;
•revisions to standard operating procedures for the drinking water system in the event of an emergency;
•the awarding of Tender No. 12-OF-07 (three year supply and delivery of granular materials);
•a report re: the new Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, effective July 1, 2012;
•the appointment of the Emergency Management Program Committee and Municipal Emergency Control Group;
•a report re: a 2012 rescue vehicle tender;
•a report re:request for proposal to run the canteen at the arena;
•2011 Municipal Performance Measure Program results;
•a letter of agreement re: dedicated tax funds for public transportation;
•a report re: community museum operating grants for 2012-13;
•an Official Plan update re: Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing approval with modifications;
•an update on capital projects;
•a request from the Fort Frances Public Library Board re: amended memorandum of understanding and roles and responsibilities;
•an advertising request from the Fort Frances Times re: Vacation Map 2012;
•a resolution passed May 12, 2012 from the Town of Tillsonburg re: MTO Connecting Link Funding;
•a request from Ontario Family Fishing Events re: to proclaim July 7-15, 2012 as “Ontario Family Fishing Events” in the Town of
Fort Frances;
•a bylaw to approve an agreement with Makkinga Equipment Rentals re: Portage Avenue underpass pump station modifications;
•a bylaw to approve a comprehensive services agreement with Honeywell Limited;
•a financial request from the Boundary Waters Dragon Boat Festival Committee; and
•Town of Fort Frances Consolidated Financial Statements for the year ended Dec. 31, 2011 and management letter from BDO Canada LLP for adoption by Council.
