The Fort Frances Lakers had a local slant to their selections in the SIJHL’s annual draft, which took place Sunday in Thunder Bay.
The picks officially were released yesterday, with four of the eight having Fort Frances ties.
Three were forwards for the NorWOSSA champion Muskies, with Tyler Mosbeck (fourth round), Braden Webb (sixth round), and Hunter Leishman (a protected local player pick prior to nine-round draft).
The other Fort Frances native was second-round choice Mark Loveday, a goalie who has spent the last three seasons at Shattuck-St. Mary’s prep school in Faribault, Mn.
With their first-round choice (sixth overall), the Lakers picked Thunder Bay Kings’ forward Daniel Delpaggio, who notched 72 points in 61 games last season.
The Lakers also selected two Minnesota high school players—Crookston blueliner Justin Cameron in the third round and International Falls forward Luke Spilee in the fifth round.
Current River Comets’ forward Matt Glomba was the final selection by the Lakers in the seventh round (the team chose to pass on its eighth and ninth round selections).
The first overall pick of the SIJHL draft, which saw teams select players born in 1996, was Fort William Canadians’ forward Keanu Adduono, who was taken by the Minnesota Iron Rangers.
