Whether it’s floats, cars, bikes, or people walking on foot, the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce is looking for plenty of participants in this year’s Canada Day parade.
Organizers are hoping to get as many people as possible involved, Sarah Hallikas, tourism and event co-ordinator for the Chamber, said yesterday, adding they want to make this year’s parade “big and bright and fabulous.”
She noted there is no fee to enter the parade.
The theme this year is Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, so entrants should decorate themselves royally or, at the very least, just stick to the ever-popular Canadian red-and-white Maple Leaf motif.
“So get creative and join in the fun,” enthused Hallikas.
“We look forward to seeing your Canadian pride in this year’s parade!”
The parade will start at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 1.
The Shevlin wood yard will be the marshalling area, with large motorized vehicles and floats to gather on the north end of the wood yard while small vehicles, walking entries, and bands gather on the south side.
All drivers will be asked to bring the vehicle directly to the marshalling area by 3:30 p.m.
All floats will be judged prior to the parade and ribbons awarded.
Once underway, the parade will proceed west on Front Street.
There are a number of parade rules which entrants must familiarize themselves with.
For instance, no candy or other materials are to be thrown from floats, but they can have people walk alongside the parade route with hand-outs.
