Bell Mobility wants to rent space on the water tower here to install six wireless mobility antennae to its concrete foundation.
Council approved, in principle, the rental at last night’s regular meeting.
Bell Mobility now will go and work out the structural details on how the concrete foundation will be penetrated to affix the antennae.
Operations and Facilities manager Doug Brown said the town does not want the tower’s structural integrity compromised at all given the foundation of the water tower is supporting a steel tank that has the capacity to hold one million gallons of water.
Bell Mobility’s request also includes placing a small building at the base of the foundation.
A rental agreement will be developed for final approval by council prior to any antennae being installed on the water tower.
Also at last’s night meeting, council:
•heard a presentation from Jamie McPherson of the Ontario Clean Water Agency, who gave a positive report on operations at the local sewage treatment plant;
•appointed Elissa Green to the Committee of Adjustment for a term ending Nov. 30, 2014;
•accepted and approved the March, 2012 drinking water systems monthly summary report, which is now available to the public;
•passed a bylaw to approve a collective agreement with CUPE 65, effective Jan. 1, 2012-Dec. 31, 2015;
•passed a bylaw to approve a revised management/non-union benefits policy for 2012-15;
•passed a bylaw to amend By-Law 21/94 (this amendment has been to disband the Recreation Advisory Committee and Children’s Complex Advisory Committee, as first reported two weeks ago); and
•received a joint invitation from the Koochiching County Historical Society and Rainy River First Nations re: an international conference of understanding on the Rainy River Mound-Builders on May 17-18 (any member of council is permitted to attend).
