Ontarians have the opportunity to recognize outstanding members of their communities by nominating them for a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
This medal pays special tribute to Queen Elizabeth II’s 60 years on the throne, and honours her life-long commitment to her responsibilities, by recognizing those who have made significant contributions to Ontario and Canada.
Starting this week, any Ontarian can use the e-nomination form to nominate a deserving citizen.
The nomination period ends April 30.
“I encourage Ontarians to take this opportunity to recognize someone extraordinary by nominating them for a Diamond Jubilee Medal,” said Citizenship and Immigration minister Charles Sousa.
“This is a fitting way to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s kindness, her spirit, and her tremendous sense of duty to our province and country,” he added.
More than 2,000 Ontarians will receive a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Queen Elizabeth II’s reign of 60 years is the second-longest for a British monarch—only Queen Victoria reigned longer.
Her coronation service in 1953 was the first to be televised.
In celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will visit Ontario in May.
