The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office was expected to arrive in Kenora today to assist the Kenora Fire Service and Kenora OPP in the investigation of a fatal fire yesterday on Rupert Road.
The fire was detected in the early-morning hours by OPP officers on general patrol of the area.
The officer observed the smoke and found the residence fully engulfed in flames.
The Kenora Fire Service attended the scene immediately to battle the blaze.
One person was located deceased in the residence by firefighters.
The victim, identified as 56-year-old James Rutherford, was believed to be alone in the home at the time of the fire.
A post-mortem examination was scheduled for today at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
