A different venue didn’t help the Fort Frances Lakers last night against the Wisconsin Wilderness.
The SIJHL front-runners won their 21st-straight game with a 5-2 triumph over the red-and-white in a neutral-site contest in Virginia, Mn.
After a scoreless first period, SIJHL scoring leader Byron Katapaytuk netted a power-play marker at the 3:09 mark of the second.
But the Wilderness promptly responded with goals by Nick Drill and Shane Topf to move the defending Bill Salonen Cup champs in front after 40 minutes.
Wisconsin’s offence continued to roll in the third as Lucas Hendrickson, Mike Dietrich, and Jeremy Johnson all tallied.
Katapaytuk rounded out the scoring with his second goal of the game late in the period.
The Lakers (29-11-4) now kick off a four-game homestand tonight when they welcome the Duluth Clydesdales to the Ice For Kids Arena.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
