The Tracy Horgan rink, which features Devlin curler Jenna Enge at second, finds themselves right in the thick of things at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts playdowns in Kenora.
The Sudbury crew headed into action today with a 3-2 record, which puts them in a tie for the fourth and final playoff spot with Sherry Middaugh (Coldwater).
Defending provincial champ Rachel Homan (Ottawa) led the 10-team field with a 5-0 record after last night’s draw, with Cathy Auld (Mississauga) and Krista McCarville (Thunder Bay) tied for second at 4-1.
After dropping their opening game to Jenn Hanna (Ottawa) on Monday night, the Horgan foursome, which also includes Jennifer Seabrook at third and lead Amanda Gates, rattled off three-straight wins before falling to Homan 9-3 in eight ends last night.
Horgan’s three wins have come in convincing fashion.
She handed Auld her only loss thus far on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 8-3 in nine ends, then followed that up with a 7-3 triumph over Middaugh in nine ends that night.
Horgan needed just eight ends to dump North Bay’s Laura Pickering 8-3 yesterday afternoon, which moved the Sudbury rink to 3-1 before falling to Homan last night.
The rink is going up against the two Thunder Bay teams today, facing McCarville at 2 p.m. before going up against Marlo Dahl at 7 p.m.
Round-robin play wraps up tomorrow night, with the final taking place Sunday at 2 p.m.
The winner will represent Ontario at this year’s Scotties, which takes place Feb. 18-26 in Red Deer, Alta.
