Press Release
At its regular meeting on Jan. 17, the Northwest Catholic District School Board recognized Shawn Minor, teacher leader, and 15 student leaders for their dedicated contributions to the Playground Activity Leaders in Schools (PALS) program at St. Patrick’s School i Atikokan.
“This is the second year for the PALS program at St. Patrick’s School,” noted principal Guy Durand.
The team of leaders consists of students in Grades 5 and 6, who all had the opportunity to participate in a training session with Anita Lyons of the Northwestern Health Unit.
They learned about, and discussed, strategies for working with younger students in promoting active and fair play.
They all have committed to volunteering once a week during the lunch recess to provide organized playground activities for the students in Grades 1-3.
The goals of these activities are to promote active play and provide opportunity for positive social interaction.
The board thanked all the students who have worked hard to make this program possible at St. Patrick’s.
