Family and friends of Bruce and Linda Stewart of Emo, who were spending the winter months in the southern United States, haven’t heard from the couple in weeks.
Now police in Weslaco, Tex. are searching for the couple after their son filed a missing persons report.
It’s believed the Stewarts were staying at the Snow to Sun RV Park north of Weslaco, but left there back on Dec. 29.
The couple does not have a cellphone but used Facebook.
Their last post was in mid-December.
Linda Stewart’s son said it’s not like them to not check in for Christmas and New Year’s.
Her friends and co-workers at Riverside Health Care Facilities, Inc. here also said Stewart often keep them up-to-date via the social networking site.
KRGV Channel 5 News reported the couple may have been heading towards Yuma, Ariz. and that police have sent out a state-wide alert.
“If any law enforcement sees them or stops them, runs a check, then they’ll automatically get a hit on them,” Weslaco interim Police Chief Mike Kelley told the station.
“It will tell them to either call us or call home or the Canadian Mounted Police,” he noted.
He added police don’t suspect any foul play at this point.
Local OPP Cst. Anne McCoy confirmed the OPP received a call from a concerned family member on Jan. 8, reporting that the Stewarts hadn’t been heard from since a Facebook posting on Dec. 15.
They assisted the family and put them in touch with the Weslaco Police Department.
“If they need anything followed up back in Ontario from our end, we’re helping them,” Cst. McCoy noted.
“We’re in constant communication with them to keep both agencies up to speed.”
