In the past year, the Salvation Army in Fort Frances has seen far more people than ever before come through its doors seeking assistance.
Yet while need has increased, financial donations through our annual Christmas Kettle campaign have not.
In fact, Capt. Angel Sandoval reported the annual campaign fell short of its $18,000 goal by $3,000.
“There is no question this causes many concerns for the Salvation Army,” said Capt. Sandoval.
“Yet [we] truly understand and are well aware that the economy and its struggles has made it more difficult for people to give as generously as they would like,” he noted.
Despite the disappointment with our fundraising efforts this past Christmas season, and some other factors beyond our control, this did not affect our ability to give hope and provide dignity to all those who turned to us for help—some for the very first time.
In fact, in the past year alone, the Salvation Army provided groceries and other provisions to 850 adults, 500 teens, and to young children.
Furthermore, we provided Christmas food and toy hampers for 210 families made possible through our wonderful local partnerships within the community.
We simply couldn’t do it without you!
The Salvation Army would like to thank everyone who donated money, food items, and toys in the lead-up to Christmas, or who helped out in any way.
The Salvation Army is an international Christian organization that began its work in Canada in 1882 and has grown to become the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in the country.
It gives hope and support to vulnerable people today, and every day, in 400 communities across Canada and in more than 120 countries around the world.
The Salvation Army also offers practical assistance for children and families, often tending to the basic necessities of life, providing shelter for homeless people, and rehabilitation for people who have lost control of their lives to an addiction.
