The Fort Frances Kiwanis Club had a very busy and successful December.
We purchased a Shriners Club Christmas cake for each of the homes on Meals on Wheels and also delivered the meals for one week.
As well, club members rang the bells for the local Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle campaign for two days, totalling 16 hours in all.
Teams of members went to four stores and purchased Christmas groceries, then donated them to the OPP’s “Stuff a Cruiser” campaign.
A total of $1,500 was spent on this project, with the groceries being divided between the United Native Friendship Centre, the Sunset Country Métis, and the Salvation Army for use in their Christmas hampers, as well as the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau for its annual community Christmas dinner.
Kiwanis also adopted six families for the Salvation Army’s hamper program.
Another group of members shopped for Christmas dinner groceries, then purchased and wrapped gifts for each of the adopted family members.
The value of the hampers totalled another $1,500.
And each Wednesday morning, a member of Kiwanis attends Robert Moore School to assist in preparing trays for the healthy breakfast/snack program there.
