Town council has adopted designated parade routes for significant community events.
At the Nov. 28 council meeting, the Police Services Board had requested the town consider adopting one or more optional routes for processions such as the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship, Canada Day, and Santa Claus parades.
The Administration and Finance executive committee, with favourable input from Community Services, Operations and Facilities, and Planning and Development, agreed on the following:
•Either the parking lot at the Memorial Sports Centre or library, or Minnie Avenue or Williams Avenue, may be used as a marhsalling area;
•The parade will proceed from the marshalling area to Scott Street or Front Street and then proceed westward, dispersing at a point no further west than Mowat Avenue; and
•The parade then could continue to proceed back to the starting point on the condition that it does not travel west of Mowat Avenue, and remains south of Scott Street.
Also at Monday night’s regular meeting, council approved a recommendation from the Community Services executive committee to not support a Hallowe’en curfew bylaw.
At its Nov. 14 meeting, council was asked to consider determining a set time for trick-or-treating on Oct. 31, specifically 6-8 p.m.
After reviewing the merits of doing so, the Community Services executive committee, with input from the Police Services Board, recommended council not implement such a bylaw.
The Police Services Board noted that after consulting with the OPP, there are no concerns with the current hours of trick-or-treating from a policing perspective.
