This year’s well-deserved honour of being named as La Vallee’s top senior citizen went to Bill McLean.
This award was presented at the annual community Christmas party and fun day held this past Sunday (Dec. 11).
Congratulations, Bob, from your friends and family throughout Rainy River District.
I will have more information next week regarding Bill’s many good works he does to help make our small but mighty community a great place to live.

Jeanine Shine has returned from hospital in Thunder Bay to Riverside Health Care Facilities, Inc. in Fort Frances.

Cards played at the Devlin Hall last week saw Mickey and Ken McKinnon take the high while the low went to Doreen McKay and Agnes Waldeck.
Card will resume there in January.

A reminder that the Fort Frances High School’s Travel Club, in conjunction with Lowey’s Greenhouse and Market Garden, is offering beautiful Christmas poinsettias for $12 each.
Vouchers will be redeemable for one six-inch plant. Plants can be collected from Lowey’s or The Christmas Store up until Dec. 24.

Ice candles are now available for the candle-lighting on Christmas Eve at our local cemeteries, or for whatever you wish.

The ice candles will be delivered early on Dec. 24, or other arrangements can be made.

During the holiday season, the La Vallee municipal office will be closed from Dec. 26-Jan. 2.
Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
A reminder that the municipal landfill will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve) and Saturday, Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve).

The Rainy River District Mutual Aid Association’s cash calendars for 2012 are now on sale.
They make a great Christmas gift.
Calendars can be picked up from any fire department volunteer or at the municipal office.

Another suggestion for a Christmas gift is the history books, “Connections” and “Further Connections.”
These cost $50 each and are available at the municipal office.

Places I have not been:
I have been in many places, but I’ve never been in Cahoots.
Apparently, you can’t go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone.
I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump and I’m not too much on physical activity anymore.
Sometimes I’m in Capable, and I go there more often as I’m getting older.
One of my favourite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart!
At my age, I need all the stimuli I can get.
But the place I spend much of my time is in Deep Manure.
The older I get, the easier it is to get there.
