The Fort Frances Canadians Midget ‘AA’ hockey team had to settle for second place at a tournament in Duluth over the weekend.
The locals advanced to the tourney final Sunday but were beaten 7-2 by Minnetonka.
Taylor Fontana and Davis Ross scored for the Canadians while Luke Karlovich led Minnetonka with a hat trick.
The Canadians finished the round-robin portion with a perfect 3-0 record, opening play Friday with a 7-4 win over host Duluth before blanking St. Louis Park 2-0.
The squad then beat White Bear Lake 4-1 on Saturday to earn a berth in the final.
Brady McPherson was the top scorer for the Canadians during the round-robin, notching a hat trick against Duluth and then netting a pair of goals versus White Bear Lake.
The Canadians won’t have much time to relax before their next tournament.
They’re heading to Minnetonka this weekend, with their first game set for Friday.
