Time runs out on Stars

All that separated the BDO Stars girls’ Bantam hockey team from overtime in the bronze-medal game of the Lake of the tournament was a couple of seconds.
Trailing Morden 2-1 as time wound down in the third period, Jessica Coran fired a shot that found the back of the net.
But the buzzer had sounded before the puck crossed the goal line, nixing the chance at a dramatic comeback.
Rachel Jean scored the lone goal for the Stars while Emily Bird earned player-of-the-game honours.
The Stars completed the round-robin portion of the tournament in fourth place with a 2-2 record, notching wins over Fort Garry (Winnipeg) and a team from Dryden on Friday.
Their setbacks came at the hands of two Kenora teams on Saturday.
Coran and Madison Weir were among the top shooters for the Stars on the weekend while Kate Parsons stood tall in goal for the team.
