All schools of the Northwest Catholic District School Board celebrated Remembrance Day prayer services on Friday (Nov. 11).
“This month, our Catholic schools celebrate the Catholic virtue of “Peace” in all of the school activities and literacy lessons across the system,” noted board chair Anne-Marie Fitzgerald.
The schools focused on the appreciation of those who have given their lives to allow for our freedom in Canada.
St. Patrick’s School in Atikokan hosted the Legion Honour Guard to join in the prayer service.
At St. Michael’s School in Fort Frances, students joined in celebration with song and prayer in the school gym.
Meanwhile, St. Francis School focused on the horror of war and the effects on children.
Their service included Ojibwa, French, and English readings and prayers with the student body.
As well, Ojibwa language students from St. Francis attended the service with the Couchiching community.
The students of Our Lady of the Way School participated in the celebration and service at the cenotaph in Stratton.
Students from St. Joseph’s School celebrated a prayer service there featuring student prayers and writings.
And the students of Sacred Heart School had school celebrations.
They also joined the community in the march from the cenotaph in Sioux Lookout to the Legion, where students joined in song and prayer to remember our fallen heroes and Canadian peacekeepers.
