The student council and volunteer club at Crossroads School in Devlin yesterday kicked off their annual “Hunger for Hallowe’en” food drive.
Students and their families are being asked to donate non-perishable food items while they are out trick-or-treating next Monday (Oct. 31).
Food items can be delivered to the school, with the drive running until Friday, Nov. 4.
Why participate? Statistics show that one-in-six Canadian children do not have enough food to eat, warm clothes to wear, or a safe place to live.
Almost 40 percent of Canadian food bank users are children—and the numbers are rising.
By participation, you can make a difference! Most importantly, we are providing our children with an opportunity to assume active leadership roles.

The Emo Legion will host a Hallowe’en dance this Saturday (Oct. 29) from 9 p.m.-1 a.m.
Admission is $10 (age of majority only), with music being provided by Big River Band featuring favourites from the ’70s through to today.
There will be prizes for the best costumes, a special draw for designated drivers, as well as a light lunch.
Rides also will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The couple was married in Hawaii, with several family members attending.
Christina is the daughter of Diane McCoy.

Alf Redford was honoured with a retirement party Oct. 15 at the Devlin Hall.
He was “roasted and wished the best” by many family members and friends.
Alf was employed with Derald and Bev McCool for 26 years, and they made sure this retirement party was one he will never forget.
Alf’s son made a surprise visit home from Ottawa for the celebration while Tanya (Alf’s daughter) and her family also shared the day.
Congratulations to Alf on his retirement. I’m sure Barb has a “honey do” list a mile long for him!

Congratulations to Howard and Sarah Teeple on the birth of their daughter, Leah Beverly Anne, who was born Saturday, Oct 22.

It is with great sadness that I send sympathy to the family and friends of Leonard Jordens, a friendly, big man who always had a kind word and a twinkle in his eye.
He will be greatly missed.

I’m hoping some people noticed I didn’t have my “Devlin News” in the paper for two weeks. That’s because I was in St. Thomas, Ont. visiting my newest grandson.
Briar James Allen was born Oct. 5. Of course, he is absolutely wonderful and I went from two grandchildren to four in seven days.
Almost as impressive as Terry & Cheryl Beadle.

Robin’s 2¢:
A gentleman in his mid-90s, but very well-dressed, with hair well-groomed, a great-looking suit, flowers in his lapel, smelling slightly of a good after-shave, and presenting a well-looked image, walked into an upscale cocktail lounge.
Seated at the bar was an elderly lady in her mid-80s.
The gentleman walked over, sat alongside her, ordered a drink, and took a sip.
He then turned to her and asked, “So tell me, do I come here often?”
