The Fort Frances Fire and Rescue Service responded a blaze reported at a residence on the 900 block of Shevlin Avenue yesterday.
Fire safety specialist Wayne Riches said the tenant had gone out for a short while, returned home to find their smoke alarm going off and the kitchen full of smoke, and called the fire department.
Firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire.
“Lots of smoke damage, actual fire damage wasn’t too bad,” noted Riches.
“Basically, it was contained to the kitchen area.
“We had lots of smoke coming out of the building—lots of smoke, not a whole lot of fire,” he added.
The fire was ruled as accidental, with the kitchen being the point of origin.
No foul play was suspected.
The home has been turned back over to the tenant and the owner.
