The number of active fires in the West Fire Region is dwindling, having dropped from more than 30 a week ago to 18 as of this morning.
Those 18 blazes include eight in Fort Frances District, all of which are being managed because they are beneficial to ecological renewal in Quetico Provincial Park.
The rest of fires are in Sioux Lookout District, Red Lake District, Thunder Bay District, and Nipigon District.
In total, these active blaze cover 216,026.9 hectares.
There have been 908 fires in the West Fire Region since April 1, consuming 629,250.6 ha in all.
The fire hazard is “low” across the region.
