It was a day of ups and downs for the four Muskie court teams Tuesday afternoon in Dryden.
The senior and junior girls’ basketball teams were victorious in their NorWOSSA matches, improving to 2-1 on the young season, but both boys’ volleyball sides fell to the host Eagles, dropping their records to 1-2.
After building a 19-10 lead at halftime, the senior girls hung on for a 29-28 victory in yet another game that went down to the final possession.
The black-and-gold were able to shut down the Eagles’ top scorer, Morgan Church, in the late going to secure the victory—thanks to the defensive play and rebounding of Erika Moffitt, Jessica Caul, and Emily Drouin.
As for the junior girls, they once again used their offensive skills to prevail 43-35 over the Eagles, with Sarah Bagacki leading the way with a 21-point outburst.
It was a different story in volleyball action, however, as the Muskie seniors lost in four sets by scores of 22-25, 25-18, 23-25, and 13-25).
The juniors, meanwhile, were swept in three sets (19-25, 4-25, and 12-25).
All four teams were back in action this afternoon at Fort High, welcoming the Kenora Broncos to town for the second time this season.
As well, the Muskie football team also took to their home field today, looking to improve on their 1-3 mark in the WHSFL against the Currie Division-leading Elmwood Giants (4-0).
Kick-off was scheduled for 3 p.m.
