The hockey equipment drive at Source For Sports stores will be extended for one more week, meaning local donors now have until this Friday (Sept. 23) to bring in gently-used hockey equipment to Taggs Source for Sports here.
As previously reported, Source For Sports stores in Northern Ontario, the OPP, Kobe Sportswear, and Warrior Sports Canada have teamed up to gather hockey equipment for children in northern areas.
Local OPP Community Services Officer Cst. Anne McCoy said late Friday that Taggs here has seen a batch of equipment donated at the store—about a pick-up truckload—but added, “We could use more equipment!”
The hockey equipment drive, which began Aug. 29, will see the gently-used gear distributed to children throughout Rainy River District.
Taggs Source for Sports and the OPP have partnered with KidSport to help distribute donated hockey equipment locally.
KidSport has chapters in Fort Frances, Rainy River, and Atikokan, and soon to be in Emo.
This program is run in conjunction with OPP programs such as “Respect.Technology” and the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.)
