Students are back to the books—and trustees are back to the boardroom as the Rainy River District School Board holds its first meeting following the summer break tonight at 7 p.m.
It marks the first time the board has met since June, and will take place in the new board office at the recently-renovated Education Centre.
This month’s recognition of excellence will be going to Fort Frances High School for its promotion of skilled trades, including the launch of the “Specialist High Skills Major-Manufacturing Program” there as well as other projects such as the annual car club show.
There also will be a presentation on “Fostering independence through technology,” which will outline how assistive technology has been used in the classroom to improve special education.
Also up for board approval tonight are various policies which have been under review, including 8.21 Professional Development (conventions, seminars) and 8.36 Hospitality.
Trustees also will be looking to approve the following polices for stakeholder consultation: 3.33 Occupational Health & Safety, 8.09 Purchasing, and 11.70 Information Security.
As well, the board will vote to approve the initiation of the strategic planning process this fall and to renew its membership with the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association.
And as it routine, the Rainy River District School Board also will vote on its operating overdraft, with this year the board looking to approve borrowing up to a maximum indebtedness at any one time of $3 million.
