Once can feel a big hole in their hart this week as we have lost one of our longtime residents. Helen Logan passed away Friday at the age of 96.
And in those 96 years she has touched the lives of many with her dynamic friendly and energetic ways.
Since her passing just some of the reflections of her life that people have shared with me are:
•Her loyalty to the Legion and always seeing her and her husband at all Remembrance Day Services, in their Legion uniforms and their poppies;
•How Helen always called you by name;
•Her sharp mind and friendly spirit;
•Her energy to be so active in community life;
•Her strong value of family; and
•How even after tragic loss she was able to go forward and live a life that helped to “make the world a better place.”
I will always remember Helen for her many, many entries in the exhibition Hall at the fall fair every year. She always won 1st place in many, many events.
It was commented by several people that the entries were down a lot at this year’s fair, and that is due to Helen not entering this year.
Every once in a while we are fortunate enough to know a person that always makes you feel better once you have crossed their path during your day, and Helen was definitely one of them.
It has been said that “the strength of a woman can be measured by how she has touched the lives of others.” If that be the case, Helen’s strength was extreme.
Our community sends caring thoughts and prayers to Helen’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Sympathy also goes out to the family and friends of Ria Hettinga. I will always remember Ria with her big smile and always a hello for everyone she met. She will be sadly missed by many.
Also feeling a great loss at this time is the family and friends of Irene Bosma. Irene lived many years in Burriss, raising her large family.
May you be comforted by the support of your community of family and friends.

The lucky winner of the 50/50 draw that was held last Friday, Aug. 26 at the Emo Legion was Albert Leek, who won $1022.50. Selling the winning ticket was Adelia Guba, who pocketed $102.25. Be sure to purchase a ticket for next month’s draw.
The Seniors Lunches will start up at the Emo Legion on Sept. 8. Bingo starts up on Sept. 13, at the Legion.

Russell MacDonald and Ashley Mutz were wed on Sat. Aug. 27, at a beautiful wedding and reception. Congratulations to the couple from your community of family and friends.
It definitely is the wedding season as another wedding celebration last week was a surprise bridal shower for Alyson Booth. The well-attended shower was enjoyed by many. Alyson will wed Chad Wannamaker on Sept. 24.

School starts up this week for the Rainy River District. Drivers are reminded to take extra caution near school yards, and follow bus safety laws.

Landfill hours will change effective Sept. 6. They will now operate Tuesday and Thursday 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

I recently heard a middle age woman call her husband, “Her stud muffin.” I replied, “How sweet that was, after over 40 years of marriage.”
“Ya,” she responded, “The trouble is, there’s lots more muffin than stud!!!”
