A series of road and sewer/water projects being done this summer are progressing according to schedule.
Operations and Facilities manager Doug Brown told council last night that work is going well on the 200 block of Third Street East, with work crews under primary contractor Wagner Construction Canada ULC most recently installing sewer and water services to all the houses on that block.
Since work began at the end of July, temporary water lines have been installed to all homes, and 204 metres of watermain and 217 metres of sewer line have been put in the ground.
Next week, the storm sewer will be put in, followed by the laying down of granular ‘A’ and ‘B’ materials.
Curbing, paving, and other aspects of the job then will be done in the weeks to follow.
This job is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 27 (weather permitting).
Crews also have begun rebuilding Osborne Street, between Christie Avenue and Armit Avenue, and later this week will begin drilling to install a watermain on Sixth Street between Portage Avenue and
McKenzie Avenue.
In late July, crews worked on Eighth Street, between Cornwall and York, to install sewer and water services for the new 10-unit apartment complex being built by Wahkaihganun Futures Corp.
Crews have been working five days a week, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., noted Brown, adding the weather hasn’t had much of a negative impact on progress.
All of the work should be completed by Oct. 14.
Also last night, town council agreed to have a mural installed on the wall in the ’52 Canadians Arena, by the doorway to the Ice For Kids Arena, as requested by local artist Lindsay Hamilton.
The mural was designed and completed by a class of 11- to 13-year-olds, under the tutelage of Hamilton, during a Confederation College art program here earlier this summer.
