The second day at the 2011 Canadian Age Group Championships in Montreal went much like the first one for Fort Frances Aquanaut Donovan Taylor as he failed to qualify for the final in the 400m I.M. event yesterday.
The 17-year old Taylor, competing in the 17-18 male age category, swam a time of 4:54.05 in his heat, which was good enough for 28th place in the standings.
Only the 10 fastest swimmers advanced to the final, which was won by Alec Page of B.C., whose time of 4:20.67 set a new Canadian age group record, breaking the time set 30 years ago by two-time Olympic gold-medallist Alex Baumann.
Taylor opened the championships Wednesday by missing the finals in both the 100m fly and the 200m backstroke events.
He was back in the pool this morning in the heats for the 200m fly (his results were not available as of press time).
Taylor is scheduled to compete in the 200m breaststroke and 100m backstroke tomorrow, then close out the meet in the 200m I.M. and the 50m fly on Sunday.
