This summer, youth in Rainy River District have another reason to look forward to seeing the OPP’s summer students patrolling their streets.
Thanks to the Sorting Gap Marina, youth will be rewarded with ice cream coupons if they are spotted wearing their bike helmets or doing a good deed for the community.
Due to its success in previous years, this youth program will remain in the community.
It focuses on getting the youth in the community to form a positive connection with the OPP while encouraging them to make positive choices.
There are many ways for youth to attain an ice cream coupon, such as taking action to keep public parks clean, wearing your helmet on your bike or skateboard, being a positive role model, or obeying the rules of the road while on a bicycle.
The OPP is proud to participate in the 2011 “Youth in Policing Initiative,” and thanks the Town of Fort Frances for partnering with this community policing program.
