M. Martin
Dear Mr. Editor:
I was appalled to read in Monday’s Daily Bulletin that Wagner Construction would be starting the sewer project in Fort Frances.
They call themselves Wagner Const. (Canada), but are based and live in, and are Americans, in International Falls, Mn.
This money they receive will all be taken into the U.S.
How can taxpayers’ and government money be given to an American company when the other two bidders were Canadian (the economy is slow here), who employ all Canadians, pay property, road, and income tax, and buy in Canada—and the money will be left here!
This job could have been offered to the Canadian bidders at this price and the money would stay here.
They encourage people to travel and shop at home. Shame on this council and mayor for allowing this to happen. Business is slow in Canada for contractors.
I guess it’s okay to shop for our cars and trucks in the U.S., Mr. Mayor?
Signed,
M. Martin
Fort Frances taxpayer
