Fort Frances is a popular stop for epic canoe trips this summer.
Mountains2Montreal stopped here early this week, and now the TransCanEauda Canoe Project will be passing through tonight or tomorrow as part of a 7,000-km trek that began in Ottawa on May 28 and will end at the Beaufort Sea in Inuvik, N.W.T. sometime this fall.
The eight paddlers, aged 22-24, hail from all over the country, with most of them currently pursuing degrees in various areas of environmental science at the University of Ottawa.
Their trip, supported by the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, hopes to raise awareness for conservation of watersheds—any areas of land that water flows across or through on its way to a particular body of water.
At last contact, the crew was unsure whether they would arrive in Fort Frances tonight to camp or tomorrow morning for a grocery trip before continuing west that same day.
