A talented group of performers kicked off “Gleek Week” at the Emo Legion on Monday as part of this year’s “River Theatre” summer program.
Under the leadership of Renée Martin-Brown and choreographer Scott Barker, the young entertainers will be learning 10 songs and dances in preparation for their performance, which will take place this Friday at the Emo Legion.
The show starts at 5 p.m., costs $2 per person, and is open to the public.
The second week of camp, which still has some openings, will take place Aug. 8-12 in Fort Frances.

Donna Haglin and her group, “Five Old Ladies,” presented the Emo Hospital Auxiliary with a cheque for $1,600 this week.
The money, raised by the women at their Friday night supper held in conjunction with the Emo Walleye Classic back in May, will go towards the new digital X-ray equipment at the Emo Health Centre.
The ladies would like to thank the public for supporting their supper and making this donation possible.

The Rainy River Future Development Corp. has a long list of videoconferences for business owners and anyone thinking of starting a business.
Videoconference workshops cost $5 each and are held in the training room at the RRFDC’s office in Fort Frances.

The draw for the fundraiser supporting Dana Siemens took place at the stock car races on Canada Day.
A representative from the Emo and District Lions Club, with the help of a young volunteer from the audience, drew the winning tickets.
Lorna Wrolstad of Emo won the grand prize of $1,000 worth of beef while Don Clink took home the barbecue pack worth $140.
The Siemens family would like to thank the Lions, local businesses, and the public for supporting them.

George Oltsher would like to thank the participating teams and all of the volunteers for making this year’s July 1 fastball tournament in Barwick a success.
Twelve teams took part, with Sight and Sound beating the Big Grassy Braves 5-3 to claim the title.
The Rainy River Royals finished third, followed by the Big Island Huskies in fourth.
In related news, the July 1 parade in Barwick was a tremendous success.
