Two Ontario men have been fined a total of $1,200 for camping on Crown land for more than 21 days.
Dennis and Robert Lacosse of Atikokan were charged under the Public Lands Act and fined $600 each for disobeying a sign stating camping in the area was restricted to 21 consecutive days.
The court heard that on April 27, 2010, Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers found two trailers parked in a camping area at Eye Lake in Rainy River District.
The area has a posted 21-day camping restriction.
The officers left notices of this restriction on the two trailers and took photographs for their records.
The trailers were registered to Dennis and Robert Lacosse.
On May 6, 2010, the officers contacted the two men to advise them of the camping restriction notice.
On May 18, 2010, a conservation officer went back to the camping area and noticed the trailers had not been moved. Subsequently, the Lacosses were charged under the Public Lands Act.
