Rainy River District OPP investigated a traffic complaint in Atikokan on Friday involving a motorist driving through the flashing red lights of a school bus while students were boarding it.
As a result of an investigation, a male driver was charged with failing to stop for the school bus.
The fine for this offence is $400 plus a $90 victim surcharge, as well as six Ministry of Transportation demerit points.
Then on Sunday around 1:30 a.m., Rainy River District OPP located a vehicle stopped in the travel portion of the roadway near the overpass in Fort Frances.
Further investigation revealed the male driver was highly-intoxicated and had fallen asleep behind the wheel.
The driver was arrested and charged with impaired driving and having a blood alcohol level over 80 mg.
He scheduled to appear in court here June 27.
The OPP will continue to patrol and conduct R.I.D.E. programs, but public safety is everyone’s responsibility.
If you drink, make the decision before you consume alcohol and don’t drive.
