One new fire was reported in the Northwest Region by the end of yesterday.
Sioux Lookout Fire #31 is a 0.1-hectare blaze which currently is classified as “under control.”
Late Wednesday evening, Kenora Fire #18 was reported about 45 km north of Kenora.
One FireRanger crew responded to the 0.1-ha fire in support of the Pellatt United Fire Fighter Department, and the fire is now “out.”
Active fires include Red Lake Fire #4, which is requiring ongoing suppression efforts as it is a deep-burning blaze.
It is classed as “being held” at 0.4 ha in size.
Meanwhile, Thunder Bay Fire #22 has been re-mapped. With the exclusion of some water bodies and a closer mapping of the perimeter, the size of the fire now is listed as 1,317 ha in size.
The blaze is now classed as “under control.”
There are no other active fires in the West Fire Region.
Fort Frances District has seen a total of five fires since April 1, consuming just 6.1 hectares.
The fire hazard, however, continues to rise across the region despite cooler temperatures.
The hazard will be “high” across the western and northern sectors of the region, and “moderate” in the northeast.
In related news, the latest wave of Ontario resources has gone to Alberta, with a total of 82 personnel arriving in Edmonton by yesterday afternoon.
This brings the total of Ontario support personnel in Alberta to 191.
