The Rainy River District detachment of the OPP recently has received several complaints from local citizens that an unknown male has been calling them offering assistance to fix their computer.
The male states he works for Microsoft, and that they have received an error message from the person’s computer.
He then says he will be able to fix the computer if he is granted permission to access it from a remote location.
It’s been determined this is not a real representative of Microsoft.
Police said members of the public should not give any personal information to persons calling them if they are not sure if the call is official.
The OPP reminds all members of the community that identity theft is continuously evolving and that criminals are thinking of new ways to obtain your personal information.
