Northwest Catholic District School Board trustees tonight will be looking to approve a contract for the installation of solar panels at St. Francis School here.
The project stems back to last June, when the board submitted three feasibility proposals to the province.
It subsequently received a funding allocation for $159,331 from the province to install a 9.6 kW solar wall/photovoltaic thermal system at the school.
At tonight’s meeting, the board will be looking to approve a contract—at a cost of $138,000, plus applicable taxes—with NRG Management for the project.
The project is scheduled to begin in the next month, and be completed prior to the province’s deadline of Aug. 31.
Also at tonight’s meeting, the Catholic board will be looking to approve upgrades to soccer fields proposed by Dryden Youth Soccer.
The soccer organization there is asking permission to install a driveway, parking lot, and moveable building (for equipment and a food booth) at the board’s North Dryden property, where a 2007 agreement saw the soccer fields built.
The board will be looking to approve the upgrades—provided all costs related to construction, ongoing maintenance, and building removal costs are assumed by Dryden Youth Soccer.
Meanwhile, the board will be presenting two Recognition of Excellences to staff and students tonight.
The first will be presented St. Michael’s School literacy coach Derek Jones, who organized a “Winter Book Challenge,” and participating students.
The second will be for teachers and student leaders at St. Francis School for their work on “Spirit Days” during the 2010-11 school year, as well as the Lenten initiative, “Buckets of Love.”
Tonight’s meeting, being held via videoconference, gets underway at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Francis School library.
