In the near future, property owners planning to dig will be able to make one phone call to obtain all contact information for all utilities located in the community.
Town council agreed Monday to authorize the mayor and clerk to executive a service agreement on behalf of Fort Frances with “Ontario One Call.”
Signing up with “Ontario One Call” will streamline the procedure for those looking for information on utility locates prior to performing any excavation work.
All they will have to do is make one telephone call to 1-800-400-2255.
As part of the deal, the town will share its GIS database for the water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer systems to “Ontario One Call.”
Other partners, such as Union Gas, also have shared their data.
The $1,000 set-up fee will be paid for between the water and sanitary sewer operating budget.
Ontario One Call Ltd. is a private corporation formed in 1996 to establish a call centre to receive excavator locate requests within Ontario, as well as to notify the members with underground facilities in the vicinity of the dig site.
