After leading the local U12 boys’ and girls’ district soccer teams for the last three seasons, Sarah Noonan is planning to step back this year and have someone else take over the reins.
However, no one has stepped forward yet.
“We’re just looking for anyone that would be interested in coaching a competitive team, whether it would be someone who has experience coaching in youth soccer or someone who had played in a league,” Noonan explained.
Between coaching the Muskie girls’ soccer program this spring, along with her own wedding taking place this summer, Noonan knew she would be unable to totally commit to coaching the U12 program this season.
“I’m just wanting to make sure that the program can still happen with a new coach,” she stressed.
“I’ve asked a few people already but I have yet to find someone who is willing to take over the position.
“And I’m willing to help someone get started by giving them the resources that I have and helping them out with things along the way, but I just can’t commit to coaching this summer,” she noted.
The U12 district teams have started their practices in May the last couple of years, with sessions continuing through the summer before the contingent takes part in the annual tournament between fellow Northwestern Ontario teams in August in Thunder Bay.
From there, players then are selected to join the U13 regional team, which is based out of Thunder Bay and organized by Soccer Northwest Ontario.
That allows players to square off with other teams from around the province before possibly making the provincial team and even the national squad down the road.
