An overflow crowd of people came out in support of David Kircher at last week’s public school board meeting at Robert Moore.
They were disappointed that the board’s vote had not changed and that Mr. Kircher would be censured.
Their feeling was that Mr. Kircher had not broken any confidence but that he had performed a service to the community.
Mr. Belluz’s statement that “it’s indicated to all trustees that there’s no one above any school board policy” made me wonder how he and other members of the previous board could think that their action regarding the severance package was something that ratepayers would applaud as sound fiscal policy and something that we would back.
The people who came out to the meeting indicated that they were fed up with the actions of the previous board and the lack of disclosure to this date.
How Mr. Belluz could take satisfaction in the vote and punishment is beyond me—if it were not for the action of the previous board under his chairmanship, there would have been no dispute over breach of confidentiality.
There are enough new members on the school board now to make sure that transparency will be the order of the day in conducting board business.
There were several questions regarding the severance package that need to be answered soon rather than later. Perhaps Mr. Belluz and Marg Heyens could enlighten us, as members of the previous board that are responsible for that amendment.
Don’t we deserve that from “trustees?”
