With the Fort Frances High School art class trip to New York City finally here, students are finding it difficult to contain their excitement.
The 23 students have been fundraising for this trip since around this time last year.
“We have held yard sales, students have been stocking pop machines,” noted teacher Owen Johnston.
“We also held our first art auction and dinner, with food prepared by Mr. Connor’s hospitality class.
“We raised about $1,000 through this fundraiser so it is definitely something we plan to use in the future,” he added.
Students have worked hard to make it this far, and the upcoming trip means something different to each of them.
“I am looking forward to seeing the art schools and museums,” said Mackenzie Paxson.
“I have so many questions I want to ask them.”
“I get to spend my birthday on April 4 in New York,” enthused Julie Magill.
“It’s not every day you get to say you turned 18 in New York,” she reasoned.
Some students are just excited to experience something other than home.
“It will be nice just to leave town and be with your friends,” remarked Danielle Murphy.
“The fact that we’re going to be in New York makes it even more exciting.”
The students will get to experience New York and visit many different places.
“I am most excited to see Central Park,” said Murphy.
“I am looking forward to Grand Central Station,” noted Magill.
Students also will enjoy the Rockefeller Center, guided tours at the Parson’s School of Design, “American Idiot” (the musical, based on the music of Green Day), and a walk on the Brooklyn Bridge, among other things.
The group will be leaving early tomorrow morning for Minneapolis, where they will board a flight to New York.
They are to fly back to Minneapolis the following Saturday and then drive home.
