Hitting the road

Jim Sheppard

Dear editor:
The Fort Frances Scott Street Show and Shine will not take place this year.
Due to the ongoing resistance, lack of co-operation, increased regulations, and frustrations of dealing with the Fort Frances town hall, the International Early Iron Car Club will be cruising west down Highway 11 in 2011.
It is with much regret that we must take our “Show and Shine” on the road. As we know, many local residents have enjoyed this annual show for many years.
This show regularly has featured more than 50 antique and classic cars and trucks worth many thousands of dollars.
The residents of our area have enjoyed the opportunity to talk to the owners and restorers about their specific projects. It also afforded many youngsters (and some “oldsters) the chance to take a ride or have their pictures taken in cars relative to the grandfather’s or great-grandfather’s era.
Most of the visitors enjoyed the opportunity to vote for their “favourite car” of the show, whether it be an antique, a classic, or a muscle car.
It was always one of the few Saturdays during the summer that Scott Street was jam-packed with locals, visitors, and tourists enjoying the fun of the car show and shopping at our local stores.
The good news is that Emo has invited the car club to participate in its annual “Spring Fever Days” festivities on Saturday, April 16. As well, Barwick has invited us to participate in the annual parade and show there.
International Falls also has invited the car club to hold a show during its annual bass tournament in August.
We look forward to having all our faithful followers join us “on the road” in Emo on April 16.
And we will continue to keep you posted on our shows in Barwick and International Falls.
(Signed),
Jim Sheppard
