While the new term for the various town boards and committees commenced at the beginning of December, the town still is looking for applicants to fill quite a few vacancies.
Five spots are available on the Children’s Complex Advisory Committee while one seat remains open on the Museum & Cultural Centre Advisory Committee.
The Kiwanis Sunny Cove Camp Advisory Committee has five vacancies, with the Recreation Advisory Committee needing three more citizen reps.
The “Citizen of the Year” selection committee still requires two members while the Theatre Management Advisory Committee and the Economic Development Advisory Committee each have one more seat to fill.
The term of office for all of the above is two years, expiring on Nov. 30, 2012.
Meanwhile, the Committee of Adjustment also is in need of two more members while the Business Improvement Area board of management needs six.
Both of these committees are for a four-year term to Nov. 30, 2014.
BIA board of management appointees must be assessed tax with respect to land in the Business Improvement Area, be tenants in the BIA, or nominees of businesses which are so assessed.
All applicants must be residents of the Town of Fort Frances. People currently holding elected office other than council are eligible as appointees.
Those interested in applying can pick up forms at the front desk at the Civic Centre, or fill out a form found on the town’s website at www.fort-frances.com/volunteering
They must be turned in to Clerk Glenn Treftlin by personal delivery, mail, fax, or in electronic format up to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 18.

Applications received will be referred to the respective executive committee for its recommendation to council.
In other news, the Alcohol & Gaming Commission of Ontario is considering holding an information session on lotteries here.
As such, the town is asking non-profit groups, either with a lottery licence or looking to apply for one, if they’d be interested in attending.
The session would be held in or near Fort Frances.
