It takes a community to move a library, and the Fort Frances Public Library is asking the public to pitch in and help haul their collection over to new facility in May.
Chief librarian Margaret Sedgwick said that since late last week, library staff have been asking library users and their families and friends to sign up and adopt a section of shelves, which they’ll then restock between May 15-31.
Those that sign up will get a sneak peek at the new Fort Frances Public Library and Technology Centre, and also will have their name entered to win prizes donated by Boston Pizza.
Sedgwick said the specific shelf sections they’ll move, and when they move them, will be determined a little closer to May, but there definitely will be a moving schedule set out to ensure not everybody is working at the same time.
“People can come on in, give us their name, and we’ll contact them when we have more details about dates and times,” she explained.
Sedgwick noted that during the move, the more popular resource materials will be left behind at the current library site for as long as possible so the public still can access them.
“We want to be closed as few days as possible,” she stressed.
As previously reported, the new library and technology centre is slated to open June 21.

In other news, the library will be screening “Twilight: New Moon” for its Teen Movie Night this Friday at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free, and snacks are provided.
