“Earth Hour” takes place this Saturday, and the Rainy River District School Board is encouraging its schools to participate in this global event organized by the World Wildlife Fund.
Since “Earth Hour” falls on a weekend, many schools will participate this Friday (March 26) by shutting off all non-essential lights and electronic equipment for one hour or more.
This event builds upon the many everyday actions the board’s staff and students are taking to reduce waste and energy consumption, such as reusing and recycling items, using “green” cleaning products, and recognizing the importance of protecting and preserving our natural environment.
The Rainy River District School Board encourages community members to participate in “Earth Hour” on Saturday from 8:30-9:30 p.m. by turning off lights, computers, televisions, and other equipment.
This is a simple action that helps make a difference—and sends a powerful message that, as a community, we care about the environment.
“The Rainy River District School Board is committed to energy conservation, our environment, and our communities,” said Heather Campbell, the board’s acting director of education.
“‘Earth Hour’ is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate that by working together, we can make a positive difference,” she added.
